Helen Craig and Tom Edge were acutely aware of this problem. As engineers and software developers, they also realised they had a compelling business solution.
Since 2001, their business Nuffield Technologies Limited has been developing large-scale mobile data capture software for the defence sector and they wanted to translate this expertise and make it accessible to other industries.
In 2014, Rugged Data mobile forms software was born and in 2022 Nuffield Technologies received an Innovate UK Smart grant to extend it into a full asset maintenance and reporting platform.
Since then, it has helped businesses of all types and sizes increase efficiencies by 30% on average.

Meet the founders behind Rugged Data
Helen Craig
Co-founder and Managing Director
Helen spent 12 years building her career as an Aircraft Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy before moving to work in the tech industry. She is the Head of Delivery for Nuffield Technologies and Rugged Data and leads the customer delivery team.
With 22 years’ experience in engineering and 10 years working in tech, Helen is trained in Lean principles and is always looking for ways to use technology to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
Tom Edge
Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer
Tom has worked in the software industry for over 13 years, joining Nuffield Technologies as a full-stack developer in 2014.
He has a wide range of experience developing mobile, desktop and web apps, with extensive knowledge in cloud computing systems. He leads an expert development and design team and has a strong passion for using technology to make day-to-day tasks more accessible.
